Choir school
What is the Choir School?
It’s a fun way to make music with friends while learning and improving as a musician and performer. We have a Junior Choir for ages six and up and a Youth Choir for teens. These choirs explore various styles of worship music including classical, jazz, folk, gospel and R&B. Solos, duets and ensembles help singers build and refine their skills.
NEW THIS YEAR!
Voci Unite: An auditioned chorus for experienced teens interested in musical theatre. Our focus will be on contemporary Christian repertoire and show tunes. Singers from Voci Unite will be trained as soloists and will have solo performance opportunities throughout the year. Chosen singers must be members of the 2011-2012 Youth Choir.
What is Involved?
- Weekly musical rehearsals with sight-singing training.
- Singing at church services two or three times each month, and at special events throughout the year including the Kiwanis Music Festival of Toronto and a spring Celebration Concert
- Opportunity to receive a half-hour, private music lesson each week. Highly trained, certified teachers give voice, keyboard and theory lessons.
Who can join?
The Choir School welcomes any children and teens who express an interest in music making. Previous musical experience is helpful but not necessary. The most important prerequisites are enthusiasm for singing and a cooperative spirit. If you have any questions, you can always contact our friendly conductor for a personal assessment.
When and Where do we meet?
- Junior Choir: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
- Youth Choir: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
- Voci Unite: 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Venue: Wednesdays at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church Ouchterlony Music Room.
Late registration accepted throughout October.
How Much does it cost?
The $350 annual fee includes choir membership and weekly private tutoring. We provide tutors specializing in voice, piano, strings and guitar. The basic annual membership fee without tutoring is $75.
The choir school endowment fund subsidizes the cost of private lessons and the running of the organization. Volunteer hours are therefore expected from participating families.
We believe the choir school should be accessible to everyone. The conductor of the choir school would be pleased to hear from anyone, on a confidential basis, who wants to participate in the choir school but faces financial constraints.
