3 The Presentation

In the centre light is shown Simeon with the infant Jesus in his arms. It is the supreme moment of his life, the reward of faith and the fulfillment of God’s promise to him.

The attendant figures, Anna, Mary and Joseph, the men and women with their children coming to make the customary sacrifice, and the high priests are witnesses of the significant scene taking place before them.

In the base of the central light are shown devout parents bringing their babes to the temple to offer sacrifice according to the law. In the gallery above, two high priests bear the rolls of the law. Behind them is seen the high altar with the ever-burning flame.

In the tracery is a rainbow, a symbol of the promise of God fulfilled in the birth of our Lord. Upon it are place the Book, the “Word of God”, and an anchor, emblem of hope.
